1) Juicy find this morning: Saruman sings heavy metal. #ineedgimmegimme

2) From a day or two ago I bookmarked this article on scientist priests throughout history. Besides listing Jesuits like Lemaitre, the inventor of the Big Bang Theory, the post throws out this interesting quote from Consolmagno: “…’religious needs science to keep it away from superstition and keep it close to reality, to protect it from creationism, which at the end of the day is a kind of paganism.’” Rational Catholics don’t get a lot of recognition in today’s society.

Mostly, though, I grabbed this piece because of its reference to Grimaldi who worked with diffraction of light. You may remember that a key aspect of Tribe of Liars (our family’s IP in development) is the use of lenses, microscopes and telescopes. I don’t know if I realized that a Catholic priest was the historical basis for aspects of our invented IP religion.

  1. Wow, never knew about Christopher Lee’s metal career. That’s . . . that’s like so bizarre. It’s cool. But so bizarre.
Sounds a lot like Blind Guardian, too, which is great.

  2. Yes! Lee’s Charlemagne albums fit right in along with my love of Shatners stuff.

  3. Many who oppose Catholic teaching still hold up Galileo as evidence of the church being anti science, I love the way this author just says that the churches involvement can be explained but not excused, in other words … Oops, just humans doing our best and screwing up along the way.
