This is a Czech film from 1958, made behind the Iron Curtain, that was adapted from a Jules Verne novel. (Hey wasn’t that crazy Alice movie Stuart reviewed a Czech production, too? What’s in the water there?)

Good ‘ol Ruskies . . . this is fascinating. Technically, I would argue most Jules Verne stories count as Steampunk, so I suppose this qualifies as the first Steampunk movie.
