Stuart Reads A Game of Thrones — Interlude

Sprite StuYo.

Been a while since the last update, hasn’t it? Almost a year, honestly. But I won’t make a big deal out of that — I’m just here to cover two important points.

Firstly, I’m back. Starting soon, you’ll be seeing some more entries here. I’ve reread my recaps of the last 22 chapters (not the chapters themselves), so I’m going to slide back into G.R.R.M’s world with chapter 23. I figure now is as good a time as any, considering the TV show adaptation is airing its fourth season. Who knows, I might even pick up a few readers?

Even if I don’t — I’m pretty damn enthused.

Secondly, and more importantly, things will be a bit different.

In the past, I had a method for recapping this book — I would write my reaction post and read the chapter itself simultaneously, updating my impressions in real time and providing a neat little summary at the post’s end. Off-screen I would then read the chapter aloud to Ian, who would in turn supply his own reactions and impressions. (In the form of drawings, of course.)

There was nothing wrong with this setup, exactly, but it painted a clear line dividing Ian’s posts and my own. I want to shake things up, so now when I read the book aloud to Ian I’ll be experiencing it with him for the first time — our reactions will be on even footing, so to speak.

All this really means is that I’ll be dropping the “read ‘n’ write” approach to my recaps in favor of a more summarized style. (In fact, my posts for the Prologue and Chapter 1 followed such a style, so it’s nothing unheard-of.)

With that bit of nonsense out of the way, I bid you bye for now, and I look forward to more fatalistic hijinks in A Game of Thrones.
